8 Day Mexican Marian Sanctuaries - Guadalajara-Zapopan-Tlaquepaque-Jalostotitlán-San Juan de los Lagos-Guanajuato-Tlaxcala-Puebla-Route of San Juan Diego to meet the Virgin of Guadalupe

ITINERARY

Day 01: Guadalajara, Jalisco

Reception of our passengers at the international airport of the city of Guadalajara at the previously scheduled time.

Transfer to the chosen hotel, rest of the day free.

Day 02: Zapopan-Tlaquepaque-Historic Center

Breakfast, transfer to the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan, Patroness of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara, celebration of Holy Mass by our priest.

Traditionally, since 1734, Our Lady of Zapopan has made a pilgrimage to different temples in Guadalajara for several months of the year until October 12. This pilgrimage leaves the

Guadalajara Cathedral to return to her home in Zapopan. It is estimated that thousands of faithful accompany her, reaching two million people on the journey. UNESCO has considered this pilgrimage “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” since 2018.

The Franciscans who guard the Virgin will kindly welcome us into their convent, allowing our visitors to gain an insight into convent life.

Our pilgrimage will continue towards the typical Tlaquepaque, where we will learn about the crafts and experience the festive atmosphere that always reigns in the place, accompanied by the cheerful notes of mariachis.

We will conclude today's tour by visiting its main buildings, the Hospicio Cabañas, which is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Sanctuary, etc.

Day 03: Guadalajara-Jalostotitlan-San Juan de los Lagos

Breakfast. Transfer to the city of San Juan de los Lagos, making a brief stop at the Sanctuary of Santo Toribio Romo, Mexican martyr considered the Patron Saint of migrants canonized on May 21, 2000, by His Holiness Pope John Paul II, receiving more than one million visitors a year. (126 kilometers)

After traveling 22 kilometers, we will visit the “Three Houses of the Virgin”, the Chapel of the First Miracle, the Parish of San Juan Bautista, and finally the Basilica that was named Cathedral in 1972 when the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos was created by Pope Paul VI, added in perpetuity to the

Basilica of San Juan de Letran by His Holiness Gregory XVI in 1892.

Celebration of the Holy Mass in the Cathedral Basilica by our Priest.

We will visit the Virgin's dressing room, observing the votive offerings that are displayed there for multiple favors that have been obtained. The Cathedral-Basilica of San Juan de los Lagos is the second most visited Sanctuary in Mexico, after the Insigne and National Basilica of Guadalupe.

The image of the Virgin dates back to 1623, and she is the Patron Saint of Jalisco. She was crowned in 1904 and again in 1990 during a visit by His Holiness John Paul II.

Overnight in San Juan de los Lagos

Day 04: San Juan de los Lagos-Sanctuary of Christ the King-Guanajuato

Very early, after breakfast, transfer to the Sanctuary of Christ the King, 30 kilometers (an hour and a half) erected on the Cerro del Cubilete. At the foot of the hill, we will make a respectful visit to the Sanctuary of Santa María de los Mártires, where the bone relics of the 25 canonized Cristero Martyrs and the 13 Beatified in 2005 by SS John Paul II are found. Celebration of the Holy Mass by our priest.

Continuing to the city of Guanajuato, 31 kilometers away, the Temple of San Diego, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato, the Temple of the Company of Jesus, the Union Garden, the Alley of the Kiss, the Museum of the Mummies, the University and the Viewpoint of the Pípila monument are just some of the emblematic places that we will visit.

In the afternoon/evening, we will participate in a “Callejoneada”, a romantic tradition that began in 1962, when a group of enthusiastic young university students began to perform Spanish music in the most important sites of the Historic Center.

Overnight in Guanajuato.

DAY 05: Guanajuato-Tlaxcala

After breakfast, transfer to Tlaxcala (453 kilometers, 5 and a half hours), we will visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, which dates back to 1537, where the first mass

was celebrated, and the first baptism of New Spain was carried out, in the persons of the four Lords of Tlaxcala. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021

We will visit the Basilica of Ocotlán to see its unique main altarpiece and the Virgin's dressing room (1718-1723), where we will be able to admire a striking work for its theological content with the eight Doctors of the Church in the dome sections, the Holy Spirit, and the Apostles; we will celebrate the Holy Mass in this Temple.

We will conclude the day by visiting the murals of the Government Palace that tell the history of the city in images.

Overnight in the city of Tlaxcala.

DAY 06 : Tlaxcala-Puebla-Mexico

Breakfast and transfer to the city of Puebla (42 kilometers)

Today's Holy Mass will be held at the San Pedro temple in the Historic Center of the City of Puebla. It was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.

Tour of the Historic Center, visiting, among others, the temple of San Francisco de Asís, which contains the incorrupt body of San Sebastián de Aparicio, the former Convent of Santo Domingo with its Chapel of the Rosary. This Chapel is considered the Eighth Wonder of the World that was consecrated in 1690. It is also called " The House of Gold " because of the material with which it is covered. Pope Saint John Paul II, upon visiting it, called it "The

Reliquary of America."

In the afternoon, transfer to Mexico City. Overnight stay

DAY 07: Route of San Juan Diego to meet the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Breakfast. We will begin the route by visiting the Parish of Santiago Apóstol , a former Franciscan convent, and the baptismal font where Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin was baptized.

Juan Diego was also canonized by His Holiness John Paul II in the Basilica of Guadalupe during the Fifth Papal Visit to Mexico on July 31, 2002.

Afterwards, we will go to the Sanctuary of the Fifth Apparition of Guadalupe, which was erected to commemorate the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin to Juan Bernardino. Participation in the Sacrament of the “Anointing of the Sick” -for pilgrims who so wish- by our accompanying Priest.

We will continue with the Insigne and National Basilica of Santa Maria de Guadalupe, the most important pilgrimage center in Mexico and the world, the mestizo cradle of Christianity and the Marian heart par excellence, the pride of our people and an unequivocal sign of

divine election. It receives 22 million visitors annually.

In this Sacred Land our Guide will continue with the explanation of the “Guadalupe Event” and the Holy Apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe in this place to the Indian San Juan Diego

Cuauhtlatoatzin, according to the source of the “Nican Mopohua”.

At the end of our visit, the celebration of the Holy Mass will be held by our Priest.The last place of the “Guadalupan Event” to be known will be the Metropolitan Cathedral of

Mexico “Our Lady of the Assumption”, the first and largest in Mexico and America, with its Sacristy where the Holy Canvas of the Virgin of Guadalupe was displayed for a short space, and the crypt of the archbishops where the remains of the witness of “The Stamping” or the “Miracle of the Roses” rest: Fray Juan de Zumárraga.

We will learn about the most important parts of the Historic Centre, which was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987.

DAY 08: Airport

Breakfast and departure transfer at the agreed time to begin the flight that will return our visitors home.
